Challenge

Perry Township — a stable, united community spanning 25 square miles with a population of nearly 30,000 residents — was in need of a cost-effective solution for managing multiple forms of communications with officers in the field. Shortly after Covid-19 pushed almost everyone to a remote setup, Perry Township’s Police Department, including 27 staff members needed to maintain operations and social distance. Chief of Police, Michael Pomesky reached out to Warwick to assist with the design and implementation of a scalable voice solution for their fleet of cruisers.

Solution

The team at Warick answered the call and began to understand the current technology position of Perry Township’s Police Department. Warwick’s team of engineers designed a solution that leveraged a softphone and the laptop in each cruiser — saving the city approximately $1,365 per month for additional mobile devices. Upon completion, Perry Township police officers were able to use a softphone directly from their cruiser for inbound and outbound calls without the need for an additional device. Warwick was also able to provide voice-to-email functionality that would allow the officers to listen to messages through their existing email client. From a safety standpoint, Chief Pomesky was very pleased to keep officers out in the community, rather than returning to the station to listen to messages.

When asked what surprised him most, Chief Pomesky mentioned that the overall efficiency of the solution far exceeded his expectations. The ability to extend communications out into the community without additional hardware was a win for the township.
