Educating Our Employees – Warwick’s Learning Week

Warwick Communications held its first Learning Week from September 13th-17th. The Learning Week idea comes from the American Society for Training and Development. ASTD encourages businesses and other organizations to hold an annual Employee Learning Week to promote professional development, grow the health and wellness of employees, and celebrate training and learning.

Warwick’s Learning Week consisted of classes held throughout the week covering a variety of topics. We decided that even though we are a technology-based business, our Learning Week was not just going to focus on voice and data technology, but have a broader focus on promoting the health, wellness, skills, and professional development of our employees. To fulfill this objective, Learning Week consisted of multiple opportunities for Warwick employees to learn about a variety of topics, such as:

  • Diet and Nutrition: You Are What you Eat
  • Financial Planning 101
  • Data Networking 101
  • Introducing Microsoft OneNote
  • Microsoft Excel Fundamentals
  • Meetings that Work: Business Meeting Etiquette
  • Introducing Mitel Attendant Console
  • Using Mitel Audio Web Conferencing

Employees also had the opportunity to job shadow other employees to learn new skills and gain a greater understanding of what their coworkers do in an average workday. In addition, solo study time was granted to each employee so each person could “catch up” on reading manuals, watching educational webinars, or work towards certifications.

As part of Warwick’s ongoing internal training and development initiative, known as TrainU, our plan is to regularly offer learning opportunities to employees, with the ultimate goal of promoting employee welfare and in turn enhancing the many services Warwick Communications has to offer.
